It’s Not My Fault!

We have all heard the expression, “The devil made me do it!” which is of course a cop out.  The thing that troubles me most is when people blame God.  There is nothing new about this, but it seems to be a growing problem.  “I can’t help it, God made me this way!”  Eve blamed the serpent; Adam blamed the woman that God gave him, so in fact, the whole thing is God’s fault.  Is not that the reasoning we hear today?  Is there no standard of right and wrong?  Does my weakness and sin determine what is right for me? Not if the Bible is still the word of God.  The Ten Commandments are still God’s righteous standard.  God demands perfection in all points.  Of course we have all fallen short.  It is when we realize that we have fallen short of this standard that we see our need for the grace of God to redeem us from the curse of the broken law.  Instead of trying to justify ourselves, we are made just by the blood of Jesus our redeemer.  But who wants to admit wrong and helplessness?  We all want to find our own way even if we must put the blame on God for our sin.  It is time to own up to the fact God created a perfect world and man without sin, but we all have chosen to go our own way.  It is time we face ourselves and admit we have broken God’s laws.  There is hope and forgiveness through Jesus Christ but we must repent and trust His cleansing.  While the law does not save, it shows how far short we have come to meeting God’s standard.  It is then that we find our righteousness in Jesus Christ who died for us.  When we stand before God we will have no argument.  Man’s standard will fall far short.  If we reject God’s way, we have no one to blame but self.As the publican prayed, “Lord be merciful to me a sinner.”

May the Lord bless.
